Fifty hotels, each chosen because it fixes a real trip problem
The TSG 50 is the spine of this publication: a rotating list of fifty hotels with short rules. A hotel earns a place by being unusually good at one thing a traveler needs. That might be a beach you can reach without crossing a highway, a lobby that works as a living room on a rainy city weekend, a room layout that suits a family of five, or an airport hotel that makes an early flight painless.
That means the list will put a historic inn beside a plain hotel near a runway, and both will deserve their spot. Stars and price don't decide anything on their own.
Every entry carries the same notes: Why It Made the 50, Best For, Location Check, Room to Book, Worth the Upgrade?, Getting Around, Who Should Skip It, and the TSG Verdict. If a hotel can't survive an honest answer to who should skip it, it doesn't go on.
Hotels leave the list too. A renovation that goes badly, a change in management, or a better option opening down the road can all bump a property, and when that happens we'll say why. No hotel pays to be included. Coming up first: how to read the list if you're new to it, and how to use it to plan a trip rather than just admire it.
